Hospital Kota Bharu

Hospital Kota Bharu was established in 1930. It is one of two tertiary referral centers in Kelantan. Since its establishment it has gone through many physical changes. The latest being the Phase 1 Development Project which was completed in 1997. Phase 11 is to be launched soon. At present HKB is a 835 bed hospital. It has all the major subspecialities

The hospital can be divided to two areas
1) Old Block
2) New Block

The Old block contains Departments of Medicine, Paediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Dermatology and their wards. Ear Nose & Throat(ENT), Eye and Dental Clinic are also situated in this Block The New block contains Departments of Surgery, Orthopaedic, Anaesthesia, Pathology and Radiology. Department of Psychiatry is housed in a separate block across Jalan Dusun Muda.

The center, which is situated in the Accident & Emergency (A&E) Department, was officially opened in September 1997. The coordinator of this center is the Head of Department of A&E.

This center is set up to cater to the needs of the victims of rape, child abuse (physical, sexual, emotional, sodomy, child neglect, disposing of newborns) and domestic violence (wives or husbands)

The purpose of this center is to enable a multidisciplinary management of their problems - all in one place instead of having to send them to different units.
